Procedural Fantasy Island

Heavily inspired by Moana (unashamedly my favourite animated Disney movie) and in a bid to cheer myself up on some dreary lockdown weekends I pushed my Houdini skills one step further by exploring it’s procedural terrain modelling techniques. Woah, the level of detail and customisation you can apply to modelling terrain is incredible really. Take a look at the below image for an idea of how these islands are progressed from basic primitives to detailed topography - very cool for a cartographer!

Obviously these workflows are tricky to master with no prior knowledge so I leant heavily on the wonderful tutorials by Rohan Dalvi (https://www.rohandalvi.net/). The below are some examples of how these fantasy island progressed overtime.
